1934 ~ 2019
Amelia Alva Sorensen entered this world on September 3, 1934, and departed on February 16, 2019, after more than 84 years of committed and loving service to her family, LDS faith and community. Born in Salt Lake City, Millie passed peacefully at the home of her son, Todd, in Annapolis, Maryland.
Preceded in death by her husband, Dewitt Dyal Sorensen, a son, Garth, and grandchild, Melissa. Millie is fondly remembered today by DeNise, Mark and Todd, her children, and Nichole, a grandchild. She is also survived by a sister and brother, Raul and Lila, and is now with siblings Junior, Buddy and Cecilia, who departed before her.
Millie found meaning in life through service. She worked as an LPN in hospitals, care centers and private homes. As a young couple, Millie and Dewitt generously opened their home to four children. Throughout her life, she loved singing with and directing choirs in her religious and senior center communities in Salt Lake, Kaysville, Utah, and Annapolis, Maryland.
Later in life, Millie loved to travel and visited many exotic locales around the globe. Millie and Todd took numerous cruises together, building a bond through a shared love of adventure that endured to the end of her days. Millie is remembered today with smiles and fond laughter for her unique fashion sense, her love of Cheesecake Factory sugar-free cheesecake, her commitment to crafting and her devotion to lunching out any day of the week.
Rest easy now, Millie. You endured to the end with spirit and self-sacrifice.
