Andrew M. "Andy" Hudson, age 62, a lifelong resident of the Roseville section of Newark, N.J., died on Feb. 17, 2019.
Visiting will be held on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Saint Rose of Lima Church, 540 Orange Street, Newark, N.J. The Funeral Mass will be offered on Friday, Feb. 22, 2019, at 10 a.m. at Saint Rose of Lima Church. Interment will be held at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 125 Central Avenue, East Orange, N.J. 07018.
A Proud "Newarker," Andy was graduated from Sussex Avenue School; attended Saint Benedict's Prep before being graduated from Essex Catholic High School. Later he attended Essex County College before enrolling at the American Academy - McAllister Institute of Funeral Service from which he was graduated in 1978.
Andy served his apprenticeship at the Edward T. Reid Home for Funerals, Kearny, N.J., receiving his Funeral Director's License in 1980.
From 1976 to 1981, Andy worked part-time in the Credit Authorization Department of Bamberger's Department Store in Newark, N.J.
Andy worked as a Funeral Director for 35 years at the Bernheim Goldsticker Memorial Home in Irvington, N.J., which later became Bernheim Apter Goldsticker in Maplewood, N.J., and subsequently Bernheim Apter Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel in Livingston, N.J.
Among his many interests and affiliations were, the Saint Gerard Men's Society; The Federation of Italian American Societies of New Jersey; the Annual Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel; Irish Celtic Dancing; and playing video poker in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Atlantic City, N.J.
Andy's family's roots in Newark go back to 1846 and he was extremely proud of his Scottish and Irish background.
Predeceased by his cherished parents, Harold and Helen R. (nee McCann), and his esteemed grandparents, Harry and Agnes (Dot) (nee MacIntosh) Hudson, and Michael B. and Anna C. (nee Templeton) McCann, Andy was the dear brother of David M. and his wife, Carol E.; and the late Judith A. Hamilton; the devoted uncle of Susan Helber and her husband, Daniel; Captain Kerry R. Dos Santos and Police Officer Paul A. Hamilton (both of the Newark Police Department); Kristen C. Hudson; Jeffrey D. Hudson; and the late Michael C. Hamilton; and the loving grand uncle of Amber M. and Corey Frankosky; Alyssa R. Dos Santos; Ciara A. Helber; Hailey M. Hamilton; P.J. Hamilton; Patrick W. Helber; and Nickolas M. Hamilton.
