Betty Odle
Betty Odle, (ne;e Edris Elizabeth Holm) passed away peacefully on November 25, 2018. Betty was born in Roundup, Montana, on March 24, 1925, to Oscar W. and Martha Ida Gerntholz Holm. When Betty and her twin brother Bill were twelve the family moved to Seattle. In summers they would visit their cousins in Roundup, and in Sanborn, ND.
Betty attended Lincoln High School, a dedicated member of the class of '43. At the University of Washington she was a member of Phi Mu, she also attended Seattle Pacific College. As a young woman, Betty worked at the YWCA in Galveston, Texas.
In 1961 she married Robert W. Odle, Sr. Betty and Bob loved to travel and were avid fans of the Huskies and Mariners. They sang in the choir at University Christian Church. Betty was a member of Eastern Star. Bob passed away in 2006.
For many years Betty taught second grade at Sunset Elementary School in Shoreline. She brought enriching experiences to her pupils through art, music and exposure to diverse cultures.
Betty was a tireless and efficient organizer, helping to put on committee meetings, luncheons, picnics and banquets: the Roundup (Seattle) picnic, Lincoln High School class of '43 reunions, and Sno-King School Retirees events (WSSRA), among others. Betty's family and friends also benefitted from her hostessing prowess.
Betty and Bob lovingly shared their home with their cat, Claud, followed by Claudette. In her elder years Betty shared her armchair with "Henry," gazing at the view she so treasured of the Seattle skyline and evergreen trees. Thanks to her loved ones and dedicated care-givers, Betty stayed in her home until just weeks before her passing.
Betty was a supportive, efficient, inspiring, no-nonsense, spunky, generous, cheery, welcoming woman - a cherished teacher, mentor, relative, spouse and friend.
Betty is survived by her twin brother and family, her husband's children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and by her cousins and their descendants.
A Memorial Service will be
held at Evergreen Washelli Funeral Home on Sunday, January 20 at 1:00 PM.
