Byrdie LeVine, 93, died Nov. 8, 2018, in Bellevue with her beloved three-legged cat curled up by her knees and the ashes of adoring husband by her shoulder. She was born to Effie Moore Two Lewis and William Lewis in Rockford, Illinois on August 10, 1925. Byrdie graduated from Rockford's East High School in 1943. During the weeks prior to graduation, she met a 1941 East High BMOC grad, Jens LeVine.

Jens had just joined the U.S. Marine Corps and after much effort, convinced Byrdie to become his wife. They were married at Paris Island, South Carolina, on Oct. 21, 1943.

After World War II the couple settled in Rockford until 1956 when they moved to Downey, Calif. They moved to Issaquah in 2003 and Bellevue in 2012.

Byrdie was active in the Downey Women's Club and Assistance League. She and Jens enjoyed many longtime friendships, entertained frequently and were avid bridge players. They were staunch members of Lutheran Churches - most recently Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Sammamish.

Byrdie was a fabulous cook and for nearly 30 years held an annual Christmas cookie exchange. She loved cats, dolls, fresh strawberries, champagne, wearing beautiful clothes, and bingo.

Byrdie's greatest love was Jens and she was devastated when he died in 2012.

Byrdie and Jens were proud of their four children - Sherry (and David) Grindeland of Bellevue, J. Eric (and Lucy) LeVine of Mission Viejo, Lindy Bergen of Shoreline and Carol LeVine of Issaquah. They bragged about their 10 grandchildren: Susan (Aschenaki) Lulu of Seattle, Geoffrey (Debra) Grindeland of Bainbridge, Leauri Moore of Shoreline, Katie Grindeland of Portland, Raundi (Michael) Kondo of California, Jennifer Chappelle of Sacramento, Brian Cisneros of Seattle, Blake (May) Cisneros of Seattle, Jason (Jamie) LeVine of Texas and Brianna LeVine of California and of their 17 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.Byrdie is also survived by several nieces including Sue Fiduccia of Rockford and Gayle Bowie of Seattle.

A memorial service will be held at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 24850 SE Issaquah-Fall City Rd., Sammamish at 1 p.m. December 2, 2018.
