Barbara Deane Jaeger

Barbara Deane (Nelson) Jaeger passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2018, at Swedish Edmonds after developing complications from surgery and late stage Parkinson's disease.

An only child, "Bobbie" was born on November 14, 1931, in Odessa, Washington to Walt and Jeanette Nelson. Life was good, but difficult growing up during World War II and the Depression. Hard times were balanced with a loving home surrounded by aunts, uncles, grandparents and friends. In an attempt to become self-sufficient, the family moved to Edmonds when Barb was a young teen, where they had a small farm with cows and chickens, and a beautiful victory garden. Barb made friends, acclimated to country life, and graduated from Edmonds High School in 1949. Go Tigers!

One fateful Independence Day, Barb met Andy Jaeger and there were fireworks! The young couple dated steadily, including during Andy's term during the Korean War, and married upon his return. Residing in Edmonds, the couple welcomed a son in 1955, followed by two daughters in 1959 and 1964. Barb was a loving, nurturing mother. She kept a comfortable home, sewed our clothes and we always sat down to dinner together at the end of the day.

Barb had a green thumb and was an avid gardener. She enjoyed spending time at the family cabin in Plain, Washington, vacations to Maui, RVing, and wintering in Mesa, Arizona with Andy and many newfound friends. Ceramics, quilting and knitting were some of her favorite pastimes and in recent years she knitted many caps for premature babies, and sewed over 300 dresses for a charity in Africa. As Barb's mobility became limited, she kept a positive attitude and fighting spirit, focused on bringing cheer and happiness to others.

Barb was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Andy Jaeger. Surviving are their son Mark (Janelle), and daughters Terri (Doug) and Kelly (Brad). Barb had exceptional bonds with her grandchildren Andy (Amber), Tony, Zach (Lira), Payden (Anna), Lindsay, and Brittany, and great granddaughter, Lailiya.

We are deeply grateful for the enduring friendships that you shared with mom, both lifelong and new, and the outpouring of love, prayers and support you've offered so generously. Thank you to every one of the loving, respectful caregivers and other angels behind the scenes at Swedish Edmonds, for your support of mom and the family during such an emotional and important time in our lives.

At Barb's request, no service will be held. Interment with husband, Andy, at Evergreen-Washelli in Seattle, Washington.

In lieu of donations, please be kind to one another, volunteer, send a card, give a smile or hug, or do something meaningful to you in Barb's name. ~

She would love that.
