Barbara Giske

Barbara Giske passed away peacefully in Edmonds on October 28, 2018 at the age of 93. Barbara was born in Seattle, WA on November 16, 1924 to Myrtle and William Riedel. She moved to Edmonds, WA at the age of 10 from Seattle. She graduated from Edmonds High School in 1942 and then attended the University of Washington where she joined Alpha Chi Omega sorority and developed very special friendships which have been an important part of her life. While at U.W., Barbara received a B. A. degree in Business and Economics. Barbara worked for many years as a secretary for the Edmonds School Dist. Those who knew Barbara, would say she enjoyed a good game of bridge or cribbage, visiting Hood Canal, spending time with her family and supporting progressive community organizations.

She is survived by her three children, Ridelle Roper (Bob), Sally Forgette, Carol Lager (Jim), her six grandchildren Jennifer Roper, Jeffery Roper, Miles Forgette, Mark Forgette, Aaron Metzler (Alicia), Michelle Metzler, (Lora), great grandchild Finnley, and niece Barbara Wilson. In 1972 Barbara married Howard Giske and her family grew with Howard's three children, Howard Skip Giske (Beth), Laura Ray (Robert), and Steve Giske (Kathy).

At Barbara's request, the family is planning a private memorial. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest.
