Alvara Forbus Deal

1924 ~ 2018

Alvara Forbus Deal passed away July 9, 2018 at age 93. Alvara was the daughter of Lady Willie Forbus and Alvaro Clyde Shoemaker, was born and grew up in the Magnolia neighborhood in Seattle. She attended Magnolia Elementary School, Queen Anne High School, and graduated from the University of Washington in 1946 with an Arts and Sciences degree in Latin American Studies. Always attracted to Latin American culture, her studies led her to travel and, after her marriage, to live in several South American countries. Her husband, Clyde S. Deal was a petroleum geologist exploring for American oil companies from the 1930s through the 1980s. His profession led them as well to Pakistan and Texas.

In retirement the family returned to Seattle living in the Magnolia neighborhood. Alvara and Clyde belonged to the Seattle Tennis Club and were avid tennis players wherever they lived. Alvara's homes reflected a joy in collecting cultural treasures from everywhere she lived. She was discerning, sociable, intelligent and charismatic. Her presence will be remembered and missed.

Alvara is survived by sons Kirk Deal, Stuart Deal (Melissa Borden); grandchildren Ariel

Waite, Rowan Borden-Deal,

Dylan Borden-Deal, and sister Dale Forbus Hogle, who resides in Magnolia. Alvara was predeceased by her parents, husband and daughter, Leslie Ann.

The family plans to gather in September to celebrate Alvara's life.
