Barbara Jane Christie

(Miss Berg)

Born at the Norwegian Hospital in Seattle, Washington on August 6, l924 to Fred and Elsie Christie, passed peacefully into the arms of God Sunday morning October 14, 2018. She grew up in Ballard and attended Adams Grade School, James Monroe Junior High and graduated from Ballard High School in l942. Barbara was a member of Daughters of the Nile since l954, Washington Athletic Club since l969, Museum of History and Industry, Palm Springs Museum, Golden Beavers Ballard High School Historian, Ballard High School Foundation Board, AAA since l955, Children's Orthopedic Hospital Dr. Casper Sharples Guild 50+ years, Plaza Royale Owners Association Secretary 28 years, Treasurer Ballard High School Girls Club, Seattle Times Credit Union Board member and officer 34 years and Pacific Northwest Newspaper Guild.

At 17 Barbara read a "blind" ad in the newspaper that began her 50 year career writing funeral notices at the Seattle Times. She loved telling the story of Frank Blethen coming to work at the Times and telling her he was going to sit next to her to learn as much about the newspaper business as he could. Barbara told him that one day he would run the place and guess what? He does. Barbara shared a love of hockey and baseball with her family. Many a time their family hosted hockey players from Canada at their home also known as the "Hotel DaGink" until they could find apartments of their own. Barbara loved ice skating, snow skiing (thanks to the Webster boys). She also enjoyed knitting, singing, shopping and collecting.

She is preceded in death by her father Fred, mother Elsie and her two sisters Anne and Marjorie. She is survived by niece Vicki (Steve), Christie (Bruce) and nephew Doug (Patti); four great nephews, two great nieces, three great, great nieces and one great, great nephew. She developed many lasting friendships, traveled the world and made a profound impact on many, many people. A big thank you to the staff at Aegis Living on Queen Anne at Galer for the wonderful care and love shown to Barbara. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
