Alvin Louis Blindheim
June 27, 1924 ~ October 3, 2018
Son of Ole Andreas Rasmussen Blindheim and Anna Fischer; brother of Agnetta Wilhelmina Felthous. Preceded in death by Miriam Jean Melis Blindheim in 1981. Father of Mark (Karen), Steven (Sue), Neil (Janice) and Dale; grandfather of Ryan and Kelly, David and Michael, Everett, Claire, and Anna; Great-grandfather of River and Dakota, Mia and Logan, Sonia and Marian, Nolan, Rhys and Rey, and Jovie.
Alvin graduated from Lincoln High School and played on the basketball team. He was a proud alumnus of the University of Washington where he played JV Basketball and rowed on the crew and Washington State where he graduated in Dairy Science.
Alvin was a veteran of World War II with service stateside and the Aleutian Islands
Known as "Caliber Al" while selling construction equipment in Anchorage, Alaska, he then began his career selling pumps and chain saws for Homelite. He would draw crowds at the company booth at the Puyallup Fair carving chain saw totem poles. He also sold the Flygt Pumps which removed the groundwater enabling the construction of Interstate 5 through Seattle.
He was an accomplished accordionist who played for family, friends, church, the VA and accordion clubs.
Alvin is a past president of the Norwegian Commercial Club. During his presidency he participated in the inaugural polar flight directly from Seattle to Copenhagen along with Senators Jackson and Magnuson, Governor Evans and Seattle Mayor Dorm Braman. As a result of this trip, Mayor Braman appointed Alvin to head up the new Seattle - Bergen Sister City Committee. This resulted in a number of continuing exchanges which include the establishment of the then Bergen Square in Ballard and the Totem Pole which now resides in Bergen Norway. His activities with the Norwegian Community included serving as the Grand Marshall of the Leif Erickson Day Parade along with Seattle Super Sonic Slick Watts.
Services will be Friday 2:00 pm, October 26, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church
