Angelina "Angie" Ligdas Chipian

Salt Lake City, Utah - Our beloved wife, mother, yiayia, and aunt, Angelina L. Chipian passed away on October 22, 2018, of causes incident to age. She was 95. Angie was born to Sam and Kaliope Ligdas in Salt Lake City on July 30, 1923. After graduating from West High School, she worked as a shorthand stenographer for the WWPA at FT. Douglas during WWII. She met the love of her life, John A. Chipian, when he returned from the war, they were married on September 28, 1947, at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Salt Lake City. They worked alongside in business owning and operating Chipian's Inventory Service for 34 years.
Angie was a lifelong member of the Greek Orthodox Church and had a deep love and faith in God. She served as a member of the church choir, was involved with the Sunday School Program and served coffee during the social hour following Sunday services. She also worked tirelessly at the annual Greek Festival until age limited her activity. She was an avid 50+ year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Mt. Olympus Chapter 23, as well as a past Worthy Matron.
Angie leaves behind her loving and supportive husband of 71 years, John; her son Terry(Mary) Chipian; grandsons John(Peggy) and Jeff Chipian; niece Mercy(Nick) Mamalis; "granddaughter" Tina Mamalis; nephew John(Elaine) Vassiliades; sister-in-law Mary Burton; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved and cared for her and will miss her dearly. She now joins her parents, her beloved sister Christine Vassiliades, and nephew Peter Vassiliades.
The family wishes to thank the warm and caring staff at Assisted Living of Draper and Inspiration Hospice for making her final days comfortable and dignified.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 27th, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, 279 South 300 West, Salt Lake City. Friends and family may visit on Friday, October 26, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary 3401 South Highland Drive, with a Trisagion (prayer) service at 7:00 p.m. Interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In Lieu of Flowers, the family suggests donations be made in her name to the Greek Orthodox Church of Salt Lake at the above address.
