Arthur Thomas (Tommy) Weir
1932-2018
Arthur Thomas "Tommy" Weir, 86, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2018 after a brief illness. He was born May 29, 1932 in Breeze, Illinois, the eldest son of Jesse T. and Alma Weir of Tenaha, Texas where he grew up. Tommy is survived by his wife, Ann Lucy Weir of Katy, TX and their three children; Jan Weir Lancon and husband Ray Lancon of Kingwood, Texas; Kathy Weir Carlton and husband Tim Carlton of Cypress, Texas; and Mike Weir and wife Darla Weir of Katy, Texas. Tommy was a grandfather to Carrie Carlton Hampton and husband David Hampton; Peter Lancon and Kathryn Lancon Opp and husband Chris Opp. He was also blessed with 2 great grandchildren, Jayson and Walker Hampton.
Tommy received his BBA from the University of Houston where he met Ann. He was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. Upon graduation, Tommy began his successful sales career in the oil and gas industry in Houston, TX, with Jones and Laughlin Steel Corp. After 15 years at J and L, he moved on to become Vice President of Sales at National Pipe and Tube. Eight years later, he became President of Jo-Way Tool Co. of Houston. During this time, he also fulfilled his dream of owning acreage and cattle, and moved his wife to Cat Spring, Texas.
Tommy always wanted a business of his own so in 1986 he purchased Taylor Lightning Protection Company. He grew the company to become one of the largest Lightning Protection companies in the United States. Major installations include NRG Stadium, Minute Maid Park, The Toyota Center, Sam Houston Race Park, Gallery Furniture, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and NASA, just to name a few. After 30 successful years in the Lightning Protection Industry, he retired, moved back to Katy, Texas where he continued to consult in the family business.
Tommy has been a member of the Tejas Vaqueros since 1977. He was on the Board of Directors for the United Lightning Protection Assoc. He was also a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Sealy, Texas.
Tommy / Dad / Papa will be greatly missed. As his wife, Ann, has always said, "Who would have ever thought that a little boy from Tenaha, Texas would accomplish so much?"
The family will have a private ceremony. A celebration of life will be held in the future, date and time to be determined. In lieu of flowers, send donations to St. John's Episcopal Church, 311 6th Street, P.O. Box, Sealy Texas 77474
