Annita Ruth Schade
1928-2018
Annita Ruth Schade, 89, went to her Lord on August 9, 2018 at Brookdale Gaines Ranch, following a recent decline in health. She passed holding hands with her son, David and daughter-in-law Jeanette. She was comforted in her final days by members of her extended family, friends and her family of parishioners from Christ the King Church. A special visitor was her first great grandson, Huxley Horton of Pueblo, Colorado.
Ruth was the third of eleven children of parents Daniel Brady and Cathryn Porterfield Chapin. She was born in MacGregor, Texas and spent her early childhood on the Ellis farm in Stampede Valley west of Moody. The family moved to Houston in 1938 where she grew up in the Heights. Ruth attended Reagan High where she was a great student and a member of the Reagan Red Coats marching band, in which she played the bass drum.
Ruth and her first husband Roscoe Lytle had one child, David. After their separation, she then married Lawrence Dean Schade in 1955. They raised David in the Spring Branch area of Houston.
After high school, she attended business school. Ruth had a long work career. First with Trans Texas Airlines, then Associated Engineering, where she rose to Vice president and Executive Secretary to owner, J. Davis Collette. After Associated Engineering was acquired by Baker Oil Tools (now Baker Hughes), she worked for the firm over 40 years.
After retiring, she and Dean moved to Nauman's Point on Lake Travis, to be closer to siblings, her son and grandchildren. After Dean's passing, she moved to Circle C in Austin. Shortly before moving, she started attending Christ the King Church with her close friend, Alice Moore and husband Dick. This was the beginning of her close friendship with Reverend John Ratliff and wife Nikki. After Alice's passing, she was again befriended by parishioner Connie Fogle and husband Leidy. Ruth loved to play bridge and Rummikub and was often joined by church friends and family. As her health weakened, she most recently moved to independent living at Brookdale Gaines Ranch. There she formed a special relationship with her aide, Kim Grubb, who would read devotionals to her at bedtime. Ruth's longtime companion, Consuelo Perez cared for her lovingly for many years, both in Circle C and more recently at Brookdale.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sisters Kay Stephens and JoAnn Atkins.
Survivors include her son David Schade, DDS, his wife Jeanette; grandchildren, Devin, Chapin, and Hollis Schade with partner Stephen Horton; great grandson Huxley Horton; eight brothers and sisters, Billie Tips, Margaret Bauer, Jack Chapin, Charles (Sue) Chapin, Sue (Biff) Tatum, Gay (Leonard) Pierce, Nancy Carter, and Patricia Favorite. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service will be held at the Mausoleum at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Saturday August 18, 2018 at 11 AM. Additionally, there will be a memorial service, Saturday, August 25 in Austin. Details regarding the Memorial Service will be provided in the Austin American Statesman Sunday August 19, 2018.
