Bette Keating
1942-2018
The world lost an amazing woman on November 5, 2018 when Bette Huffman Keating passed away after battling Alzheimer's Disease.
Born on October 9, 1942, Bette grew up on the east side of Houston. She attended HISD's Jackson Middle School and Austin High School, where she participated in a variety of activities including her beloved Drum and Bugle Brigade. Outside of school, she loved horses and even participated in rodeos, her favorite event being Barrel Racing. She received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from University of Houston, which is also where she met her future husband, Robert J. Keating, to whom she was married for over 40 years.
Bette taught middle school for three decades, and, after retiring, taught ESL classes to adult learners. After retiring, she took an interest in her family genealogy and became a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Alexander Love chapter. A huge Houston sports fan, Bette never missed a game on television and jumped at the chance to see the Astros, Texans and Rockets in person whenever she could. She died wearing her JJ Watt Texans jersey with her bright orange Astros blanket covering her bed.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Pope and Willie Bernice Huffman, brother Gilbert Huffman, sister Elaine Bowker, and her husband Robert J. Keating. She is survived and dearly missed by her children Laura Keating Cloutier and husband Steve, Mikey Keating Smith and husband Sam and John Keating and wife Amy. She also leaves behind nine beloved grandchildren: Elizabeth, Christen and Sarah Cloutier; Elise, Lily, Elijah and Lainey Keating; and Lucy and Iris Smith.
Visitation will be at Forest Park Westheimer, 12800 Westheimer Road, from 10-12 on Friday, November 9, with a graveside service immediately after. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the .
