WILLIAMSON, Donny McLaughlin Donny was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene D. Williamson of Vernon, TX. Donny was born on December 29, 1938 in Hobbs, NM. He graduated from Vernon High School in 1957. He married Phyllis Sturdivant on November 22, 1958 in the First Baptist Church of Vernon. Soon after he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served between 1962 and 1964 in Wiesbaden, Germany in the 570th Ordinance Co. of the US 7th Army achieving the rank of Specialist E-4. He received a B.S. degree from North Texas State University in Industrial Arts, an M.S. in Vocational Education and was a doctoral candidate at East Texas State University. Donny was a man of many talents. He was in the insurance field, owned a commercial real estate firm, participated in the creation of the East Texas Oil Museum and the Amoco Oil Exhibit in the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry. He was successful selling western metal sculptures through his company Metal Creations, and taught at Wilson Middle School in Plano for 23 years before retiring in 2004. Donny was an exceptional artist. His family could count on him for beautiful creations for many occasions. These included hand decorated birthday cakes, handmade wooden Christmas ornaments for all of his son Phillip's classmates every year for many years, and exquisite dollhouse furniture for his niece. He was the best at carving turkeys and performed this duty every Thanksgiving and Christmas. He also had a great sense of humor, with an easy-going personality which must have served him well as a middle school teacher. He is survived by his wife Phyllis, son Phillip, daughter-in-law Meredith, brother-in-law Perry White, and the children of his sisters-in-law Louise Pearson, Glenna Fisher, Jane Rutherford, and Marguerite White. A memorial service will be held at the Jupiter Gardens Event Center, 11325 Pegasus St, Dallas, TX 75238 in the Aphrodite Room on Saturday October 20th at 2:00 PM. Burial services will be in Vernon Texas on Tuesday, October 23rd.
