Barbara L. Siegel, age 77, died at home on Dec. 29, 2018. She was a highly regarded educator/mentor, caring friend, and devoted and cherished wife, mother, and grandmother.
Services will be held at Temple B'nai Abraham in Livingston, N.J., on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019, at 1 p.m.
Barbara attended Douglass College, graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University, and received an M.Ed. degree from Kean College. She was a learning disabilities specialist and then administrator, first for the West Orange Middle Schools, then for the Frelinghuysen Middle School in Morristown. She was the school's principal when she retired in 1999.
Barbara and her husband of 57 years, Alan, raised their family in Short Hills. They retired to Florham Park, N.J., and Longboat Key, Fla., where Barbara was president of Beth Israel Women at Temple Beth Israel for three years. They also belonged to the Brotherhood Synagogue in Manhattan.
In addition to Alan, she is survived by daughter, Shari Siegel-Goldman, (Jeffrey); grandchildren, Nicole, Lucas, Kelsey, and sister, Anne Finger (Robert) and family. She is also survived by son, Howard (Alexis) and grandsons, Ryan and Zachary.
Barbara will be remembered as a warm and nurturing person who exuded love and kindness. She loved animals and nature and derived joy from her precious Shih Tzu, Melody.
Donations in Barbara's name may be made to the Lustgarten Foundation or Memorial Sloan Kettering.
