Hilda (Soares) Rosa, 93, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2018, at Robert Wood Johnson at Somerset in Somerville N.J.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019, at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, N.J., from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m., on Thursday, at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of the resurrection at Our Lady of the Mount R.C. Church in Warren, N.J. The interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Basking Ridge, N.J.
Born in Freeland, Pa., Hilda had resided in Portugal until 1957, when she moved to the Ironbound Section of Newark, N.J. Hilda spent most of her life there before moving to Warren in 2002 to be close to her son.
Hilda was the official care taker for the Rosa family, she took great joy in looking after her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was a wonderful cook and was well known for her famous french fries, which people still talk about. Hilda was also a talented dress designer and seamstress and a puzzle wizard.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Judite Rosa, in 2017, and son, Danny Rosa, in 2006.
Surviving are her loving husband of 62 years, Antonio M. Rosa; two sons, George and his wife, Diana, Antonio C. Rosa and his wife, Patrice; nine grandchildren, Tassia, Alex, Kayla, Joanne, Elizabeth, Alena, Sarah, Jeremy, and Nicholas, and daughter-in-law, Carolyn. She is also survived by two sisters, Maria Neves and Aurora Ferreira.
