Arthur 'Arty' Martines

Arthur ("Arty") Martines, 95, of Cranford, N.J., passed away peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2018, at Father Hudson House hospice in Elizabeth, N.J.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Sunday, Nov. 11, at Dooley Funeral Home, 218 North Ave. West, Cranford, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Nov. 12, at 9:30 a.m., at St. Michael Church, 40 Alden St., Cranford, followed by interment at Ocean View Cemetery, 3315 Amboy Rd., Staten Island, N.Y.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., Arty served his country in World War II as part of the U.S. Army forces that engaged in the battle of New Guinea, the liberation of the Philippines, and the occupation of Japan.
Arty always loved technology and was proud to have worked on the Lunar Excursion Module (LEM) built by Grumman Aircraft as part of the U.S. Apollo space program. He also worked as an optician and, following his retirement, as a school technology aide in Boynton Beach, Fla.
He was predeceased by his wife, Adrienne (nee Savoca); a son, Andrew; a brother, Joe, and a sister, Rose Caristi.
He is survived by a son, Arthur and his wife, Eileen, of Cranford; a granddaughter, Alison and her husband, Anthony Angilletta, of Woodbridge, N.J.; a grandson, John of Cranford; great-grandaughters, Sunny Tola and Brooklyn Angilletta, and a sister, Jean Ricotta, of Las Vegas, Nev.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Center for Hope Hospice, 1900 Raritan Rd., Scotch Plains, N.J. 07076, or the Elizabeth Coalition to House The Homeless, 118 Division St., Elizabeth, N.J. 07201, would be appreciated.
