Public information officer in Piscataway Township, chief of staff to the mayor, active in charitable causes
Anne M. (Connor) Gordon of Piscataway, N.J., passed away Friday, Nov. 23, 2018, at her home. She was 84.
Born in Carbondale, Pa., she lived in St. Marys and Beaver, Pa., before moving to Piscataway 57 years ago. She received her B.A. from Rutgers University in English and women's studies, at the age of 54.
Anne had worked for Piscataway Township for 28 years. She retired earlier this year as chief of staff to Mayor Brian C. Wahler and as the township's public information officer. She also was the producer of "Eye on Piscataway," the mayor's monthly TV show, and the writer/editor of Piscataway News.
Previously Anne had worked for Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Rutgers University Office of Continuing Education. She was co-owner of Sweet Indulgence cookie gift firm in Piscataway.
Anne was very active in charitable causes. She enjoyed spending time in New York City and at the Jersey shore. Anne was an avid reader and enjoyed writing. She loved her many friends and her family dearly.
Anne was a trustee of the Piscataway Library Board and The Metlar/Bodine House Museum, a trustee of East Jersey Olde Town, and charter member of Cornelius Low House, all in Piscataway, a member of the Friends of Piscataway Library, and a delegate at the 1st Annual NJ Governor's Conference of Libraries.
She was former president of the Trowel Garden Club of New Brunswick, a member of St. Peter's University Hospital Auxiliary, past board of directors of Cerebral Palsy Association of Middlesex County, past president of the New Brunswick Junior Woman's Club, and a committee member of Elijah's Promise fundraiser.
Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Robert J. Gordon; her son, Robert J. Gordon Jr. of Washington, D.C.; her daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Thomas Police of Clarks Summit, Pa.; her son, Timothy Gordon of Piscataway; her grandsons, Christopher and Daniel Police, and Connor, Will and Clark Gordon; her sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and David Butters; her daughter-in-law, Meredith Gordon of Maryland; her cousin, Betty Doran, and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 28, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Frances Cabrini R.C. Church, Netherwood Avenue, Piscataway. Friends and relatives may call on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at The Crabiel Home for Funerals, 170 N. Main St. at Riva Avenue, Milltown, N.J.
