SICKINGER BETTY W. SICKINGER Betty Jean Weaver Beall Sickinger, born July 28, 1927 in Cumberland, Maryland, died peacefully on August 22, 2018. She was 91 years old. A member of Silver Spring United Presbyterian Church and, later, Warner Memorial Presbyterian Church, her religious life suggested paths of service for her. She marched with Dr. King at the Lincoln Memorial in 1963, delivered meals to homebound patients with HIV/AIDS in the 90's and took under wing two adults with severe developmental delays, her friends Betty and Shirley Ladd, until their deaths. She graduated as a National Merit Scholar from Fort Hill High School in Cumberland, MD, and retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture after decades of service as an executive assistant in the Office of the Secretary, receiving commendations from presidential administrations of both parties from the 60's onward. Occasionally proud to have been a "Coal Miner's Daughter," she was born to William and Jenny Weaver of Cumberland and survived her siblings - Margaret-Alice, William, James, Helen, Earl, and younger sister Shirley. She also survived her two husbands, Edward D. Beall, and Henry F. "Hank" Sickinger. She died with the sure knowledge that she would be received, by grace, into eternal rest and joy along with many friends and loved ones who have gone before. She strove all her life to embody the teachings of her savior and to bring her faith and love to others. She is survived by her son, Steven D. Beall, her beloved daughter-in-law, Carmel M. Roques, her devoted grandchildren Erica Marie Beall and Augustin Edward Beall, and her great grandchildren, Henry Weaver Fleming and Penelope McGown Fleming. A memorial service will be held at Warner Memorial Presbyterian Church, 10123 Connecticut Ave., Kensington, MD 20895 on December 22, 2018. In lieu of flowers, gifts honoring her may be made to Montgomery Hospice, 1355 Piccard Drive, Suite 100, Rockville, MD 20850 or to her church, Warner Memorial Presbyterian. In lieu of flowers, gifts honoring her may be made to Montgomery Hospice, 1355 Piccard Drive, Suite 100, Rockville, MD 20850 or to her church, Warner Memorial Presbyterian.
