ANNIE RUTH SCARVILLE   (Age 95)  
Peacefully passed away on November 9, 2018 at Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center of sepsis and multiple organ failure. She was the second daughter of Luther and Ozella Dowdell and was born in Americus, GA. For most of her life, she resided in Lakeview, NY and summered in Oak Bluffs, MA. She was a graduate of Weaver High School (Hartford, CN), Bennett College (Greensboro, NC), and Columbia University Teachers College (New York, NY). She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Epiphany (Hempstead, NY) and a member and former trustee of Union Chapel (Oak Bluffs, MA).For 25 years she taught in and eventually chaired the department of Home Economics at PS 142 in Queens, NY. After her retirement in 1984, she spent May-October of each year on her beloved Martha's Vineyard, swimming, leading water aerobics, painting, and engaging in charitable activities as a member of the Cottagers, Inc.Ruth is predeceased by her husband, Charles Bonaparte and her sister, Kathryn Dowdell Allen. Remaining to celebrate her life are her daughter, Jacquelyn (Arthur) Randolph, sister, Mildred Henderson; niece, Tonetta Henderson; nephew, Millard (Venessa) Allen; great-nephew, Michael Freeman; great-niece, Alicia Taylor; "adopted" daughter, Tina Hanjoglu; and a host of relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 1 at 1 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Epiphany, 35 Fulton Ave., Hempstead, NY, 11550.
