AIDA RAVELO PECK
On November 10, 2018. Aida Ravelo Peck was born on May 18, 1939 in the small town of General Luna, on the island of Siargao, in the Philippines. She was one of seven children of Fidel and Epifania Ravelo. She earned a diploma in nursing from the University of the Philippines, Philippine General Hospital, in 1962. In 1965, she came to the United States on a nursing exchange program, to work and study at Temple University in Philadelphia. Work as an RN followed at hospitals in Jersey City and Brooklyn, NY, where she met her husband Malcolm through a mutual friend. For 27 years, she worked as an operating room nurse at Howard University Hospital, specializing in open heart cases, before retiring in 2001. Aida was active in many Philippine-American organizations, finding great satisfaction both in supporting worthy charities and in dressing up in beautiful Filipino gowns and dancing the night away. She remained close to her UP PGH sisters in the class of 1962, faithfully attending their annual reunions. She leaves behind Malcolm, her son John, her sister Consolacion Lopez, many cousins, and nieces and nephews across three generations. The family will receive friends, between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., on Sunday, November 18, at Murphy Funeral Homes, 4510 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington, VA 22203. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 19, at St. Thomas More Cathedral, 3901 Cathedral Lane, Arlington, VA 22203. Interment at Columbia Gardens Cemetery, 3411 Arlington Boulevard, will follow the mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made with checks made out to "cash," and "Union Elementary & High School, Dapa, Surigao del Norte" noted on the memo line. A member of the family will present the donations to the school.
