BETTIE ROSENTHAL MINTZ (Age 99)
Died peacefully at her home in Bethesda, MD, on September 26, 2018. Bettie was born in Chambersburg, PA, in 1919 and moved with her family to Washington, DC, when she was 12. She graduated from The Madeira School and earned a bachelor's degree in education from Ohio State University. She taught 5th grade in a Montgomery County elementary school in the early 1950s. Bettie was a dealer in American Folk Art, specializing in Amish quilts, folk art, and Native American jewelry, using the name "All of Us Americans," for nearly 40 years. Bettie's beloved husband of six decades, Seymour S. Mintz, who died in 2010, was an eminent tax lawyer with Hogan & Hartson, the precursor to today's Hogan Lovells. They shared a decades-long interest in psychoanalysis, American art and furniture, plus social justice issues and their large family.  Bettie is survived by her four children, Alex Stein (Marlem) of North Bethesda, MD, Sallie Findlay (Gene Nelson) of Chestertown, MD, and Deer Isle, ME, John Mintz (Emily Yoffe) of Chevy Chase, MD, and James Mintz (Deborah Stewart) of New York City. She also loved her seven grandchildren, is survived by six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Her family will hold a private gathering in her memory later this year.
