BERTIE PRATHER LEAHY (Age 90)  
Of Bethesda, Maryland passed away peacefully on Tuesday November 20, 2018 at the age of 90. She was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1928 to the late Oren and Nancy Prather. She moved to Washington D.C. at the age of 12. A graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Bridgewater College and Washington School for Secretaries, she worked first as a transcriber for NIH and later as a bookkeeper for the family business - Leahy Plumbing & Heating. She is predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Edward Leahy and her son William Leahy. She is survived by her children Michael Leahy, John Leahy and Debra O'Reagan. Her many grandchildren include Michele Swain, Brigid Leahy, Gregory Leahy, Cecily Leahy, Wynne Leahy, Mason Leahy, Carter Leahy, Brennan O'Reagan and Charlotte O'Reagan. She was blessed with her great grandchildren Daniel Leahy, Emilia Leahy, Holland Swain and William Swain. Her abundant family brought endless joy to her life. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Bertie's favorite teams were the Nationals, the Wizards, the Redskins and the Maryland Terrapins.  Her family will receive friends at Pumphrey Funeral Home, 300 W. Montgomery Ave., Rockville MD on Monday, November 26 from 7 to 9 p.m. A committal service and celebration of her life will be held at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery Chapel, 13801 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring MD on Tuesday, November 27 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Cross Church, 4900 Strathmore Ave, Kensington MD 20896 or J.S.S.A. Hospice, 6123 Montrose Rd. Rockville MD 20852. Her family is eternally grateful to both organizations for their support.
