Dr. Carole H. Latker  
Dr. Carol H. Latker, beloved wife of the late Normal J. Latker, passed away peacefully on Sunday September 30, 2018. A distinguished scientist and educator, Dr. Latker held senior research, teaching and administrative positions at Uniform Services University and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) over four decades. She retired in 2012 after serving for more than 10 years with NIH's Office of Scientific Review.  Family and colleagues describe Dr. Latker as a brilliant and innovative biological researcher. She was a passionate, persuasive voice in support of private and public funding for core medical sciences in American academia. As a senior scientific review officer for NIH, she visited medical schools all across the country to assess research grant applications. After her retirement, Dr. Latker became a tireless advocate for residents at Maplewood Park Place, a retirement community in Bethesda. Dr. Latker is survived by her daughter, Dr. Miriam Sell of Phoenix, AZ and her son, Richard Latker of Hollidaysburg, PA, and five grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 4, at Maplewood Park Place (Garden Level), 9707 Old Georgetown Rd., Bethesda, MD at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Morrisons Cove Parochial Schools, 231 Emory Oak Lane, Roaring Spring, PA 16673.
