Alan Rubin

Faleceu

August 8, 1950 - July 1, 2018 On July 1, Alan Rubin, loving husband and father of three, passed away at age 67. He was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. He became a US Citizen in 1979. He received his BFA from Pratt, MFA from Cranbrook, and MLA from Harvard. His winding and fruitful career ended with his retirement from project management at LAUSD in 2016. On July 19, 1975, he married Anne Black of Queens, New York. They settled in Irvine, California where they raised three children and lived happily for over 30 years. Alan had a lifelong passion for the arts. He worked as a painter, mixed media artist, paper maker, and printmaker, creating hundreds of pieces with a distinctive minimalist style that hang in the houses of friends, family, and fellow artists across three continents. He had an insatiable appetite for music, literature, and film: his perfect afternoon included catching a foreign film; sitting in his armchair reading Dostoevsky or a contemporary novel; and listening to his large, eclectic music collection. He is remembered for his generosity, authenticity, and the encouragement he offered widely. He advised others to forge their own path, to build expertise and to share it readily, to grow and learn and broaden their world. He is survived by his wife Anne, his three children, Sarah, Joey, and Benjamin, his grandsons William and Andrés, and his brothers Clifford and Derek.
