Former Cedar Grove resident was active well into her 90s
Adrienne Curnyn, residing at Cedar Crest in Pompton Plains, N.J., passed away on Jan. 16, 2019, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 96.
Adrienne was born in East Orange, N.J., in 1922 and grew up in Bloomfield, N.J. She was the daughter of Margaret and Thomas McElroy. After high school she attended the Fashion Institute in NYC and held many careers using her creative and business talents.
Adrienne married John J. Curnyn in 1956 and they lived in Cedar Grove, N.J., until moving to Wayne, N.J., in 1965. Adrienne returned to Cedar Grove for 30 years before moving to Cedar Crest in 2010.
Adrienne had several leadership roles in garden clubs, won numerous blue ribbons for flower arranging and even achieved the prestigious level of judge for New Jersey flower shows. She was a past president of the Women's Club of Montclair, N.J., and gained countless friendships in the numerous activities she participated in. Her love of bridge, golf and tennis kept her active well into her 90's.
Adrienne was predeceased by her husband, John J. Curnyn. She is survived by her son, Dennis Curnyn (Jeanne); daughter, Carolynn Koenig (Ken), and five loving grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held Saturday, Jan. 19, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Cedar Crest Village Chapel, 1 Cedar Crest Village Dr., Pompton Plains, NJ., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m.
