WEINTRAUB, BARBARA, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 23, 2018, in Coconut Grove, Florida at the age of 81. She was born to the late Felicite Woolford and Lawrence Post on February 16, 1937, in Midland Park, New Jersey where she lived most of her early childhood. Her family then moved to California where she lived for a number of years before her sense of adventure compelled her to come back east. After moving to Florida in 1960 Barbara accepted an administrative job at the Miami law firm of Smathers and Thompson and within a few years became office manager. It was there that she met Michael, who would become her husband of fifty years. A few years later, Barbara chose to leave the firm and, at the urging of a friend, became a volunteer for the American Cancer Society. Her leadership capabilities soon became apparent, and she was elected Chairman of both the Dade County Unit and later the Florida Division. Barbara went on to become a member of the ACS National Board of Directors and Chairman of its Executive Committee. She was also Chairman of the National Crusade Committee, which is responsible for the ACS nationwide fundraising efforts, and was the recipient of the ACS National Volunteer Leadership Award. Meanwhile, in her hometown, Barbara found time to establish the Hope Lodge Center in Miami, which provided lodging and care to cancer patients and their caregivers. The ACS was not the only beneficiary of Barbara's talents. She also served as a Trustee of the University of Miami and Barry University for many years. In addition, she served on the Boards of the Miami Lighthouse for the Blind, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and Miami Children's Hospital Foundation. Barbara was an excellent golfer, and this game was both a source of enjoyment and an integral part of her fundraising efforts on behalf of many of the organizations for which she volunteered. She was the founding General Chairman of the Elizabeth Arden LPGA Golf Classic and served on the Executive Committee of the Doral Ryder Open Golf Tournament, both of which benefited the ACS. Barbara was a member of Indian Creek and Riviera Country Clubs in Miami, Farmington Country Club in Virginia and Hound Ears Club in North Carolina. Barbara leaves behind her loving husband and daughter, Lori Browning (Stuart), grandson Parker, and sister Carol Russo (Henry Mangels), and loving nephews and cousins. Our Barbara, truly an angel on earth, will forever live in our hearts. She gave us many years blessed with her love and laughter and left us with memories that will never be forgotten. A memorial service will be held on October 9, 2018 at 12 noon at Plymouth Congregational Church in Coconut Grove, Florida. There will be a reception immediately following the ceremony.
