Betty Mcneil

Faleceu

Betty Jeanne McNeilPassed away peacefully on Oct 28, 2018. Betty was born on Sept. 24, 1922 in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Idah Wicklund. She was the wife of the late Raymond Francis McNeil and devoted mother of six daughters: Pam, Lynne, Jennifer, Loretta, Leslie and Liz and loving grandmother of Peter, Stephanie, Maxwell, Nicholas and Lucas.

As a young girl, Betty studied piano which became her lifelong love. Music filled her heart. From playing her beloved Debussy to teaching students, which she did for 75 years. She received her Master's from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York and taught piano at San Francisco's Lone Mountain College, where a student introduced her to her future husband.

Betty had a knowingness and gift for kindness. Her cookies, especially her Christmas cookies, were legendary, one of the many traditions of hospitality which infused her home with such warmth. Her faith was deep, as was her capacity to love. Everything she did, she did for others, from her holiday cookies to the flannel nightgowns she sewed for the poor to the homemade gifts that marked every occasion. To her last, she loved Winnie the Pooh, Charlie Brown and ladybugs. She ran to the window whenever a flower bloomed or a hummingbird appeared and never lost her childlike sense of wonderment. Friends may visit Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018 from 4 pm to 9pm, with a Rosary at 7 pm, at Duggan's Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Avenue, Daly City. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, Nov. 2, at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 1 Elmwood Dr. in Daly City. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
