Bernard Kastin

December 19, 1920 - November 15, 2018 Bernard Kastin passed away on November 15th, 2018 at the age of 97. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on December 19th, 1920, and was a longtime resident of Rancho Palos Verdes, California. Bernard was a Third Quartermaster Captain in the Army from 1943 to 1946 and was stationed in South Africa and Casablanca. He supervised distribution of food supplies from the U.S. for provisions to the troops in Africa and parts of the Mediterranean area. Bernard received his Bachelor's degree at the University of Michigan and a Master's degree in Music at the University of Virginia at Richmond. Bernard traveled the country as a concert pianist performing operas. He then came to Los Angeles and met with actor John Carradine & other actors about starting the first opera company, but it was not to be. He acted in a performance of the play Juliet in Mantua by Robert Nathan at the Westside Jewish Community Center where he also conducted the orchestra in the play Finian's Rainbow. He had a passion for music. Bernard later started his own real estate company with his deceased business partner, Bernard Pasch, called KC Realty. Together they became very successful as real estate developers. He is survived by his wife, Jamie Kastin, sons, Darrell (Elizabeth) Kastin, Andre (Dubilia) Kastin, Mark Kastin, and Ondine Kastin, grandchildren, Jonathan Kastin, Nicholas Kastin, and Christopher Kastin. A Funeral Service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, November 24th, 2018 at Green Hills Memorial Chapel followed by interment.
