ANTHONY RED ADAMS, SR.  August 7, 1940- November 15, 2018  
United States Coast Guard Captain Anthony Reid Adams passed away November 15, 2018 with his family at his side. He is survived by his bride of 54 years, Patricia Ann Adams; and his children Dawn M. Adams, Anthony R. Adams, Jr. (Spike), Scott D. Adams and their families, including five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Anthony "Tony" was born in Bakersfield, California to Ivan and Helen Adams and is also survived by his mother and three sisters, Judy Brock, Beverly Gibson, and Barbara Currier. He left home at 17 to attend the United States Coast Guard Academy, graduating in 1963. He married in 1964 and served for more than 30 years in the USCG as a search and rescue pilot. His career with the USCG spanned more than years and included key involvement in authoring legislative proposals and regulations to contain and clean oil spills. He created his own company (Adams Maritime) following USCG retirement, at which he worked until just months before his death. Anthony was a devout Roman Catholic, a volunteer Treasurer for the Knights of Columbus, and an active community servant. He was passionate about music and his grandchildren, enjoyed cars, working with stained glass, traveling, acting, politics, and steelhead fishing. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at the Nativity Catholic Church in Burke, Virginia. Visitation for family and close friends will be at 9 a.m. and a short Knights of Columbus ceremony will start at 9:30 a.m. A formal military burial with full honors will follow in the spring of 2019 at Arlington National Cemetery.
