Andrea E. Hall Adewale-Adebowale, affectionately known as "Angie" of Newark, N.J., made her transition on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2018.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov. 16, at 10 a.m., at the Metropolitan Baptist Church, 149 Springfield Ave., Newark. A visitation will be held on Thursday, Nov. 15, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the church. Interment will be at Fairmount Cemetery in Newark.
Andrea received a BSE in civil engineering from Princeton University in 1988. Shortly thereafter, she began her career with the City of Newark as the first female African American engineer assigned to the Newark Department of Engineering, Division of Water Supply. She later was promoted to supervising engineer and later, manager.
In September 2014, under the direction of the Honorable Ras J. Baraka, she was sworn in as the director of the Department of Water and Sewer Utilities and served her full term. In July 2018, she was reappointed for a second term.
Andrea was predeceased by her loving father, Eddie Hall, and her grandparents, Heywood and Noreen Perry.
Survivors are her beloved husband, Akinwumi Adewale-Adebowale; children, Ambyre Hall, Adejoke Adewale-Adebowale, Adeyinka Adewale-Adebowale, Akin Adekanmi Adewale-Adebowale, Aaron Adedeji Adewale-Adebowale; grandson, Jeremiah Howe Jr.; mother, Bertha Hall; brothers, Eddie Hall II (Celeste) and Stewart McGriff; co-workers and friends of the City of Newark, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
Professional services are entrusted to the Cushnie-Houston Funeral Home, 102 Sanford St., East Orange, N.J.
