Gene stayed in the area for his undergraduate education, earning his degree from the University of Chicago. He went on to earn his masters in mathematics from Temple University while working at the Western Electric Engineering Research Center in Princeton, where his career began. Gene demonstrated his intellect and innovation prowess with the award of two patents in 1968 and 1969 for his work on wire coatings and insulation. He moved to Baltimore, Md., after completing a Western Electric Executive Training Program for which he was chosen. His distinguished career of over 35 years included roles as the manager of the Western Electric Corporate Data Center and Plant Comptroller. Gene served on two international organization tasks forces, first for Western Electric, and then for AT&T. His contributions led to the formation of AT&T International and his position as director of international engineering for AT&T from which he retired. A true renaissance man, Gene was an accomplished pianist and loved to play the music of Scott Joplin. He worked on several musical compositions as tributes to his wife, Joen. He allowed her to hear a select few and preserved for her one in writing. His talents also extended to painting in all mediums from charcoal to acrylics, and can be found adorning the walls of his home. It was for his talent in the kitchen that Gene was highly regarded. Family and friends celebrated the creations he spent days planning and preparing. To dine at the Ferrari's was a culinary treat. His interests spanned many areas, leading him to earn his much cherished pilot's license. In retirement, Gene found great joy in helping the community by volunteering for AARP, providing tax preparation. Gene is survived by his loving wife, Joen Luy Ferrari; brother, Joseph Ferrari; children, Kelli (Phil) Hennessy Keb, James Guy Ferrari, and Kenneth (Maja) Michael Ferrari; grandchildren, Mary, P.J., Madeline, Josephine, and Jacob, and great-grandchildren, Leigha and Lucas.
