Carolyn W. McGrew
Died peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 14, 2018. She was 95 years old and the last surviving sibling of five. Her other siblings, Catherine, Antoinette, Lawrence and Nelson grew up with her in Weston, West Virginia. Carolyn was married for over 40 years to the love of her life, John McGrew, who died in 1989. She was mother to six children, John (Erika), Pat (Maureen), Mike (Monica) Meg, Kevin and Jim (Joanne) McGrew; grandmother to 16 and great-grandmother to five. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Mary McGrew, Peggy McGrew and Betty Switzer, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Carolyn was an active RN prior to being married and on the staff of Providence hospital until the time when she started having children. Carolyn was a great example of a lifelong learner. Into her 90s, she participated in Tai Chi, post Cana group, bowling, croquet, and other Leisure World activities. Carolyn also joined the DeChantal and Our Lady of Grace choirs and greatly enjoyed the camaraderie that she found there. As remarkable as her long life was, Carolyn's journey to the end was equally impressive to us. Her positive attitude, even after her stroke and 3rd hospice round was inspirational to everyone. We now remember and celebrate a beautiful life of 95 years that was full of happiness and joy. Carolyn's life encompassed three things that were very important to her...her faith, her family and her friends. The family thanks all of the wonderful Holy Cross nurses, aides and staff especially her long-standing nurse Marci and hospice aide Dorothy.
