Andrew E. 'Barney' Poline USMC veteran, family man and loyal parishioner at Fairfield parish, 94 Andrew E. (Barney) Poline, 94, of Fairfield, N.J., passed away peacefully at his home on Aug. 8, 2018, surrounded by his family. Services will be at Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 7 Two Bridges Rd., Fairfield, on Sunday, Aug. 12, from 3 to 7 p.m. Funeral Mass is at St. Thomas More R.C. Church, Fairfield, at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 13, with interment at Gates of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, N.J. Born in Brockton, Mass., to the late Andrew E. and Joanna Teresa Sliney Poline, Barney lived in Clifton, N.J., in his early years until moving to Fairfield in 1959. Barney served in the 4th Division, U.S. Marine Corps, and remained active in the Marine Corps League and Iwo Jima reunions throughout his life. He was a life member of VFW Post 7295, Fairfield, and American Legion Post 249, Parsippany, N.J. He retired as a field inspector for Robins Engineering of Totowa, N.J., in 1989, allowing him to travel the world with the love of his life, his wife, Marita Teehan Poline, who predeceased him in 2017. Barney loved life and had many interests. Travel took many forms, including many cruises and extended visits to Water Island, USVI. Barney and Marita were among the founding families of St. Thomas More Parish, where he served the church working bingo, Knights of Columbus and Holy Name Society and as an usher for almost 40 years. Of all his interests, his main focus was always family first. He was the loving father of Marita M. Poline, Joanne Bohr and husband, Bob, Margaret Kaplan, Dorothy Washer, and Andrea Henry and husband, Richard. He was the devoted grandfather of Michele, Robert, Jennifer, Michael, Daniel and Thomas, and special great-grandfather of Samantha, Jason, Henry, Mackenzie, Ella and April. Barney was predeceased by his brother, Alexander. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Atlantic Homecare & Hospice, 465 South St., Suite 100, Morristown, N.J. 07960.
