Alexander Joseph Scaff Sr. 'Always willing to help, even if it was just to make you smile' Alexander Joseph Scaff, Sr., 78, of Cedar Grove, N.J., passed away on Aug. 5, 2018 following a long illness. Services will begin on Thursday, Aug. 9, at 8:30 a.m. at Shook's Cedar Grove Funeral Home, 486 Pompton Ave., Cedar Grove, N.J., shookscedargrove.com. Funeral Mass is at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Angels Church in Little Falls, N.J., with interment at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Caldwell, N.J. Visitation will be on Wednesday, Aug. 8, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Born in Newark, N.J., to the late Louis and Elmaza, Mr. Scaff grew up in East Orange, N.J., and lived in Shrewsbury, N.J., and Union, N.J., before settling in Cedar Grove. He was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School (ICHS), Montclair, N.J., and, despite his size, excelled and lettered in football, basketball, and baseball. He was inducted into the inaugural ICHS Hall of Fame in 1984. He was active playing in the Cedar Grove men's softball league before becoming the league's umpire. He also refereed basketball and coached little league baseball. Prior to retiring, Mr. Scaff owned A. Scaff Trucking. He was always willing to help, even if it was just to make you smile. He will be greatly missed. Mr. Scaff was predeceased by his wife, JoAnn; brothers George, Nicholas, and Louis; sisters Lorrice Selesky, and Irene Kennedy; brothers-in-law, Francis Selesky, Ferris George, and Gerry Frino, and sister-in-law, Minnie. He is survived by his children, Alexander J. Scaff Jr. and Kate Tibak (Eric); grandchildren Emily, Paige, Colette, Trey, and Jenna; amazing girlfriend of 12 years, Judy Frasso, and her family; sisters, Lorraine George and Eleanor Frino; brother-in-law, Tom Kennedy; sisters-in-law, Helen George and Eleanor Scaff, and many nieces and nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
