Alice V. Hirsch Great-grandmother, longtime Garwood resident Alice V. Hirsch, 91, passed away at home Aug. 5, 2018. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Dooley Funeral Home, 218 North Ave. West in Cranford, N.J. A gathering for friends and family will be Friday at 9 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Anne's Church, Garwood, N.J. Entombment is in Fairview Cemetery, Westfield, N.J. Alice was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Lucian and Sophie Jankowski. A former resident of Clark, N.J., she has lived in Garwood since 1949, after marrying her husband, Matthew M. Hirsch. Alice was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Garwood Fire Department, and a Cub Scout Den Mother in Garwood. She was a communicant of St. Anne's Church in Garwood for many years. She had numerous jobs throughout the years, including a secretary and a homemaker. She was predeceased by her husband, Matthew, in 2008. Surviving are her devoted sons, Craig and Matthew L.; her beloved siblings, sister, Constance Nicholas, and brother, Richard Jankowski; her loving grandchildren, Kristen Ferreira, Lauren Maguire, Matthew J., and Megan E. Hirsch, as well as her great-grandchildren, Jenna and Benjamin L. Ferreira. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her memory to St. Anne's Church, 325 Second Ave., Garwood, N.J., 07027.
