BRENDAN M. RYAN  
Brendan M. Ryan, 72, passed away peacefully at The Sylvestery in McLean, Virginia, on July 23, 2018. Brendan was the beloved husband of 24 years to Jane M. O'Connor, and the loving father of daughters Alana Jane Ryan, and Margaret Rose Ryan. He also is survived by two brothers, James Ryan of Kensington, Maryland, and Robert (Brenda) Ryan of Verona, Wisconsin. Preceding him in death were his parents, Allan J. and Agnes L. Ryan. Brendan grew up in Meriden, Connecticut, and was a graduate of Francis T. Maloney High School in 1963, and Georgetown University in 1967. He went on to attend the University of Wisconsin Law School for one year before being drafted and served in the United States Army in 1969 and 1970 during the Vietnam War. He received an Honorable Discharge after four more years of reserve duty obligation. Brendan was Senior Vice President and leader of the Washington, DC Employee Benefits Consulting Practice of Sedgwick James of North America from 1980 until he established his firm, Brendan Ryan Employee Benefits Consulting, in 1994. He completed three terms as chairman of the Arlington County chapter of the American Red Cross and was later appointed as chairman of the VA/DC State Service Council of the American Red Cross in 1997 and served in that capacity through 2001. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Victory Church, 4835 MacArthur Blvd., NW, Washington, DC. Private Inurnment in the Columbarium at Arlington National Cemetery at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to the in memory of Brendan M. Ryan.
