July 22, 1957 ~ June 17, 2018
Our beloved and courageous Biff, 60, passed peacefully at home on June 17 while battling his second round of cancer. His strength and optimism remain an inspiration to us all.
Born July 22, 1957 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Alvin Dean Baker and Marjorie Miner Baker, Biff was the oldest of three children. He graduated from South High School and later earned a B.S. degree in Mass Communication at the University of Utah with emphasis in broadcasting and electronic media. He completed a student internship at KUER-FM Radio on campus and also attended the CATO Institute Seminar on Political Economy at Stanford University in 1980. Biff was an avid fan of U of U sports as well as the Utah Jazz.
His strong work ethic began at an early age. As a teenager he worked and trained as an Electronics Technician at his Uncle Dave's audio repair business. They were close friends during their 15 years working together. Biff continued in consumer electronics repair for several years and then as a technician in CD/DVD duplication and mastering.
For nearly the past decade he broadened his technical experience in the medical device manufacturing industry first at Boston Scientific, and most recently, as an Electronics Technician and trainer at BD Medical. Biff took great pride in his career and continued working 12-hour shifts during chemotherapy and radiation in 2016, and again in spring 2018. We admire his fierce determination to maintain a purposeful life while fighting cancer.
Some of Biff's favorite things included spending time with family and friends, canyon breakfasts and Sunday family brunches, his beloved dogs over many years, music and concerts, travel, and all things aviation. He was thrilled to fulfill a bucket list trip to Italy last spring.
Perhaps Biff's greatest legacy is his beautiful family. Married in 1981 and later divorced, he felt endless love for his children and grandchildren. His abundant pride was evident when sharing photos or news of their accomplishments. He deeply loved his family and we deeply loved him back.
For the family and friends who were blessed enough to know Biff, we will forever love this kind, gentle, selfless, humble and hard-working man. Two Celebrations of Life will be held in his honor:
Sat. July 21, 6:30p - Willie's Lounge, 1716 Main St., SLC, UT 84115 (Music trio tribute led by Biff's son and guitarist, Dylan)
Sun., July 22, 3-7p - Creekside Park Pavilion, 1600 E. Murray Holladay Rd., SLC, UT 84117 (Celebrate Biff by sharing your memories)
