Charles A. Miller Marine vet, steamfitter, Little League coach and umpire Charles A. Miller, 91, of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of Newark, N.J., and Livingston, N.J., passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2018, in Phoenix. He was born on April 19, 1927, to the late Charles J. and Mary (Ohman) Miller in Newark. Charles attended St. Benedict Preparatory School in Newark, Class of 1945. Then he proudly enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of Steamfitters Local 475 for over 60 years. Charles was involved in coaching and umpiring in the Livingston Little League and Babe Ruth Leagues. He also was an umpire for the Little League World Series Alumni and had the honor of participating in the 1970 World Series in Williamsport, Pa. He is survived by his five loving children, Robert (wife Suri), Margaret (husband Michael), Charles (wife Michelle), Maureen (husband Roger), and Kathleen; three siblings, Elaine Jacobs, Helen Schulties, and James Miller; six grandchildren, Riley, Colleen, Kelsey, Connell, Makenna, and Peyton. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia. A committal service with military honors will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix.
