JAEGER, CAROLYN JENKINS Carolyn Jenkins Jaeger passed away at her home on July 8th at age 89. She was surrounded by her loving family. Her two daughters, Linda Dea and Jeri Jenkins, Sons-in-law - Richard Dea and Brian Alexander and two grandsons Jad and Aaron Dea. She was preceded by her beloved husband of over 40 years Roy Jaeger. Carolyn Jaeger is recognized locally and nationally as a crusader for the rights of special needs children. Following a career as a public school administrator, she became the CEO of a private, non-profit comprehensive education and treatment program for severely emotionally handicapped children and adolescents in cooperative agreements with Dade and Monroe Counties' School Systems, University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, Florida International University, Florida State University and Barry University. Serving over 2,000 clients in 22 sites, the program was named "#1 in the United States" by the National Association of Psychiatric Services for Children. Ms. Jaeger received her B.A. degree from University of Miami, a Master's degree from Barry University and post-master's education and training from Michigan State, University of Massachusetts, FSU, University of Florida, FIU and the American College of Healthcare Executives. She has served as an adjunct professor in numerous colleges and universities in the fields of psychology, counseling, exceptional child education, public/private partnerships and administration. She is a past president of Delta Kappa Gamma, Alpha Delta Kappa, the National Council for Exceptional Children, the National Association of Psychiatric Services for Children and the Miami Council for International Visitors, sponsored by the State Department. She served on the national boards of the Child Welfare League of America, the American Association of Psychiatric Services for Children's Mental Health and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Task Force on Foster Care. Ms. Jaeger served a 3 year congressional appointment to the National Institute of Health, was a trustee on the President's Board of Florida Southern College and a member of the Governor's Board to establish early childhood education in Florida. She was Chairman of the Board of the Institute for Human Values and received a commendation from the National Conference of Christians and Jews for her work to establish interfaith councils on college campuses. Barry University honored Carol Jaeger as a "Distinguished Alumna", the Miami-Dade Junior League named her"A Woman of Distinction" and the American Red Cross bestowed the J.N. MacArthur Award as a "Distinguished Educator". The Association of Independent Schools of Florida honored Ms. Jaeger with its "Distinguished Educator" and "Lifetime Achievement" awards. Carol was an active philanthropist through her S.E.D. Children's Fund. She was a Sponsor and Vice Chairman of the World Affairs Organization and instrumental in the fight to save the Historic Palm Beach Theatre. Carol loved music, poetry, philosophy and theatre. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.
