Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Perry and Dorothy Newmeyer, her parents.
Barbara passed away peacefully in her bed on Thursday, July 5, after battling dementia for several years. She will be missed by many friends and family, but especially by her grandchildren, great grandchildren and the children from her former residence at "Park Place", who knew her as the "Candy Lady." She had a good sense of humor and reveled in her reputation as having a "quirky personality" and referred to herself as "Kookie."
She moved to California with her family when she was young, later living with her grandparents and then with her favorite aunt and uncle, George and Lucille Carruth. She eventually settled in the Limert Park area, in Los Angeles, Cal., where she attended Audubon Jr. High and Los Angeles High School, graduating in 1947. She loved going to Santa Monica Beach and riding rides on the Santa Monica Pier, especially the "Roller Coaster." She worked for May Co. and later the Telephone Co., she was working there when she met her sweetheart John "Jack" Loutensock and they were married and sealed in the St. George Temple, while on their way up to BYU.
After graduating from BYU, her husband Jack took a teaching position with the Burbank Unified School District, and they moved back to So. Calif. They lived in Canoga Park until the early 60's and then moved to Burbank, where they raised their family. Upon retirement in the mid 80's they moved to Orem, Utah. Barbara enjoyed vacations at the Cabin by Mormon Lake, in No. Ariz. As well as traveling in their motor home to 49 states, including Alaska and Flying to Hawaii. Their favorite place was British Columbia, Canada.
Barbara loved to sing, singing in choirs, and at weddings and funerals. She served in many church callings, which included Jr. Sunday school Coord., Sunday School Secretary, M.I.A Historian and her favorite was serving in Primary for 25 years. She also served as a Relief Society Counselor, ward music chairman and as secretary on the Southern California area athletic committee. She and Jack served 8 church services missions, as family history consultants at BYU, from 1992 to 2000. They enjoyed doing Genealogy.
Barbara is preceded in death by her husband Jack and one son Mark. She is survived by her 3 Children; Wendy Ruff, Brett Loutensock and Blyden Loutensock, her 4 grandchildren; Chelcie, Jason, Ashlee and London, and her 3 Great Grandchildren; Paden, Parker and Boston.
There will be a viewing held, Friday, July 13 at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary in Orem, at 495 S. State St. Orem, UT. Services will be held in the Orem Park 6th Ward Chapel, on Sat. July 14 at 1 p.m. following a viewing from 11:30-12:45 p.m., located at 195 W. 300 S., Orem, UT.
The family would also like to express their gratitude to the employees at Stonehenge, Jamestown Assisted Living and Comfort Worx Hospice.
