Carol Ellen Lynnes

Faleceu

Carol Ellen Lynnes, age 81, passed away peacefully at home in Naples, Florida on July 2, 2018 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was the beloved wife of R. Milton Lynnes and they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this August. Born on November 3, 1936, Carol spent her childhood in Westfield, New Jersey and graduated from Iowa State University in 1958. While there, she was a member of Delta Zeta sorority and reigned as a "Bomb Beauty" yearbook queen her senior year. Following graduation, she married Ensign Lynnes and they soon embarked to Oahu, Hawaii where the new officer reported for three years of destroyer duty. Over the years Carol presided over 18 different homes, raised four children, and trained six dogs. Most of Carol's adult life was spent in Winnetka, Illinois until 2001 when she and Milt moved to Utah and built their dream home on the mountain at Deer Valley. Carol was a remarkable woman in many ways with a wide range of talents and interests. She played golf at Club Pelican Bay in Naples, FL, Park Meadows Country Club in Park City, UT and Exmoor Country Club in Highland Park, IL where she was the Senior Women's Senior Club Champion one year. She also notched two holes-in-one over her career. She was an accomplished skier as well and a gardener with few peers. Her latest project was a beautiful butterfly garden. A fiber artist, Carol designed and hand hooked wool rugs, some for her home, but most for family and friends for whom they remain treasured keepsakes. She also was an experienced quilter--an annual project was an intricate handmade quilt raffled off to benefit the University of Chicago Cancer Research. Carol was a wonderful baker as well. Each Christmas she baked 24 different varieties of cookies for distribution to her friends. Several causes were near and dear to Carol's heart. She participated in the Literacy Buddy Program in Naples and the Board of the University of Chicago Cancer Research Group. Carol was a loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by son Christopher (Patricia), daughter Katherine, son Jeffrey (Robbin), and daughter Jennifer (Todd), as well as her grandchildren, Henry, Sebastian, and Sydnie. She is also survived by her loving sisters, Alice and Eileen, as well as in-laws, nieces, nephews, and many friends. Donations in Carol's memory can be made to CaringBridge.org. A celebration of Carol's life will be held in Park City, Utah in early August and another event will be planned for early November in Naples, Florida.
