Alan Harris WWII Marine Corps veteran, great-grandfather Alan Harris died peacefully on July 4, 2018. He was 94 years old. Born in East Orange, N.J., Alan had lived in Livingston, N.J., Bernardsville, N.J., and Basking Ridge, N.J., before moving to Heath Village in Hackettstown, N.J., in 2005. Alan graduated from East Orange High School in 1941 and initially worked for the California Texas Oil Company in New York City. In 1942, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving in World War II as a staff sergeant with VMSB 331, 4th Marine Air Wing in the South Central Pacific Theatre. He was discharged in 1945. In 1948, he married Jean Taylor, who predeceased him in 2003. They were married 55 years and enjoyed much travel in the U.S.A., Europe, and the Pacific. He worked for Firestone Tire and Rubber Company in many sales roles, retiring as a regional manager of wholesale account commercial sales in 1983. He is survived by his son, Alan and his wife, Dolores, of Bonita Springs, Fla.; son, Andrew and his wife, Rosemary, of Colts Neck, N.J.; and son, William and his wife, Patricia, of Gladstone, N.J.; and seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by longtime friend, Ms. Andrea Rand. A private funeral service will be held by the family. Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Caldwell, N.J.
