Anita Novy Proud American Anita (A.M.) Novy passed away on Monday, June 18, 2018, surrounded by her daughters and caregivers. She was born in Austria and immigrated to the United States in 1957, becoming a proud American citizen in 1964, residing in Roselle Park for 57 years and wintering in Arizona. Anita retired from the Union County Utilities Authority as a bookkeeper after 20 years. She was an active member of the community as a member of the Sherman School PTA, a Girl Scout leader for 10 years, a volunteer with the Union County Rape Crisis Center, and a member of St. Joseph's Liturgical Committee and Choir. She was a member of the Roselle Park Republican Party since 1970, serving as chairperson, vice chair and committee member, and a member of the Union County Narcotics Advisory Board and LACADA for over 25 years. Anita was predeceased by her husband, Charles J. Novy; parents, Josef and Maria Kurzmann; and her brother, Josef. She is survived by her daughters, Carol Berger (Donn), Linda Remite (Rich); granddaughter, Kristyn Anderson (George); stepdaughter, Dagmar Smid (Franta); companion, Donald Berger; nephew, Seppl Kurzmannn; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren in the Czech Republic. A memorial gathering will be held at Mastapeter Funeral Home, 400 Faitoute Ave., Roselle Park, N.J., on Wednesday, July 11, from 6 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's in Roselle, N.J., at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 12, followed by interment at St. Gertrude's Mausoleum in Colonia, N.J. Anita loved to laugh, play cards, take pictures, the ocean, the mountains and helping children. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer's New Jersey, or Friends of Linden Animal Shelter. The family would like to thank Anita's loving caregivers at BeeHive Home of Sierra Vista, who loved their Anna Banana.
