Dr. Francis P. McQuade Lived an accomplished life dedicated to the church, academia, and the law Dr. Francis P. McQuade, 98, of Maplewood, N.J., peacefully passed away at home on July 4, 2018. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 217 Prospect St., South Orange, N.J., on Monday, July 9 at 10:30 a.m. Entombment is in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, N.J. Visitation will be held at The Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home, 2122 Millburn Ave., Maplewood on Saturday, July 7, from 3 to 5 p.m. and Sunday, July 8, from 2 to 6 p.m. For more information or to send condolences, please visit jacobhollefuneralhome.com Dr. McQuade was born in Harrisburg, Pa., and had lived in Maplewood for the past 58 years. Frank lived a very accomplished life; he was very active serving the church, several universities, the law and government. He earned seven academic degrees, including a doctorate in philosophy from The Catholic University of America, and a doctorate in law from Fordham University, an LL.M in law from New York University, and a master of arts in theology from Seton Hall University. He was admitted to the practice of law in New York and New Jersey. Frank was ordained deacon in the Diocese of Paterson, serving at St. Patrick Church in Chatham, N.J., and was incardinated in the Archdiocese of Newark and served at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, South Orange, N.J. He was a member of the Newark Archdiocese Ecumenical Commission and was a legal advisor to The Holy See Mission of the United Nations for many years. Dr. McQuade was honored as the Irishman of the Year by the County of Essex, the Seton Hall Law School Irish-American Society, and the Newark St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee in 2014. He was a member of several well-known Irish-American Associations including the Giblin and Cryan Associations. In 2007 Dr. McQuade was the recipient of the Many Are One Alumni Service Award for his commitment to Seton Hall University School of Law and Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology and Seton Hall University. Frank had numerous affiliations with Seton Hall, he was a graduate of Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology, professor emeritus of Seton Hall School of Law, founding chairman of the Red Mass, and former adjunct professor of Immaculate Conception Seminary. Dr. McQuade received Seton Hall University's highest faculty award, The Bishop McQuaid Medal for Distinguished Service to Seton Hall University by then Archbishop Peter Leo Gerety, president of the University's board of regents. Frank was predeceased by his sister, Mary Ellen Natale. He is survived by his beloved wife, Theresa Nocella McQuade, his sister, Cecelia McCambridge, his nieces and nephews, Marietta Rode, Celene Marin, Christine Olsen, Frances McCambridge, Anthony Natale, and Angela Ryan as well as many great- nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations to Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology at Seton Hall University, 400 South Orange Ave., South Orange, NJ 07079 would be appreciated.
