1917 ~ 2018
Our dear mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, Angeline M. Astorga (100 years) of Midvale, Utah passed away on June 28, 2018 while surrounded by her loved ones.
Born on August 4, 1917 in Bingham Canyon, Utah to Ricardo Mascherino and Mary Osletto, both immigrants from Italy.
Mom was raised on a farm in Granger Utah where she learned how to work hard and stay active. She graduated from Cyprus High School. She met her future husband, Paul Astorga, the love of her life, at the Coconut Grove Dance Hall. They eloped on June 22, 1941, then, with stars still in their eyes they remarried in the Cathedral of the Madeline on Aug. 9, 1942 and were the proud parents of four children. After 29 years, their wonderful marriage was cut short when he passed away in 1970.
Her life was dedicated to her husband and family.
Her passion in life was dancing at every venue in the valley including The Rainbow Rendezvous (Terrace), Avalon Dance Hall, Ma's Place, The Elks and Eagles and The Big Open Air Dance Hall in Lehi. Mom continued dancing into her early nineties and loved every minute of it.
She was a member of many bowling leagues throughout her life. She bowled with her husband in mixed doubles and with her friends in ladies leagues. Mom and Dad had a trophy case filled to the brim, which she was very proud of.
She was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church attending St. Therese and St. Vincent Parishes. She was dedicated in her faith and sang in the church choir for a number of years.
She later married Louis Walker, divorced and remained friends.
Mom loved working in her yard creating beautiful rock gardens and trimming pine trees into show pieces. She was a skilled seamstress and even altered her own clothing.
She remained active all of her life, living independently in her family home for 62 years until the age 99. Her secret to a long life was eating fresh fruits and vegetables, cooking with garlic and olive oil, and she loved her coffee.
She cherished her grandkids and they loved listening to her stories about life growing up on the farm.
We can't help but smile when we think about the legacy she is leaving behind. Think of all the generations that have and will be blessed by the life she lived.
Survived by her children Gwendolyn Nelson (David), Pauline Mason (Clint) and Paul L. Astorga (Joni), nine grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband Paul, her daughter Linda Bullett (Mike), one sister and three brothers.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Sego Lily Assisted Living; especially Elaine, Vickie and her nurse Carol.
A funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 9800 South 1700 East, where friends may call one hour prior. Committal, Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 4th Avenue and T Street. Funeral Directors, Neil O'Donnell and Sons.
Mom was a cancer survivor; in lieu of flowers please donate to Huntsman Cancer Institute or to a in her memory.
