Clarence Mayotte

Faleceu

Clarence "Ziggy" Mayotte was born in Webster Massachusetts, on August 7, 1917, to Hormidas and Minnie (Cordelie) Mayotte. His parents were Quebecois immigrants. Ziggy was the youngest and last survivor of 10 children. He was 7 weeks short of 101 years old when he passed from this Earth on June 15, 2018. Ziggy is survived by his noble wife and companion of over 62 years, Shirley Cox Mayotte, his sons Dr. Peter Mayotte and Terry Mayotte, and his grandchildren Rebecca Mayotte and Jason Mayotte. Ziggy moved to Miami after the war, and lived more recently in Coconut Grove. Dad was one of the last survivors of that generation that knew the Great Depression, World War II and all that has followed. A highly decorated veteran of that war, he served in the 5th Armored Division, which was the first infantry division to reach German soil. He entered Paris with the American forces liberating that magnificent city. Ziggy moved to Miami after the war and began his career at Pan American World Airways where he was to meet his wife, Shirley. He managed the data processing center for Pan American in his early days and retired from Cigna in 1987. A humble but strong willed individual, he could light up a room. He enjoyed travelling the world with Shirley and spending time with his family. He was a devoted and amazing father and grandfather. He enjoyed the great outdoors, fishing, golfing, classical music and collecting exotic plants with Shirley. Additionally, faithful to his French ancestry, he loved wines, and especially sharing a bottle of Pinot Noir with his loved ones. He was also a crooner who loved to break into song on festive occasions. A 'raconteur' with a certain wit, he had that rare ability to enjoy being with people of all sorts. He will be missed by all those whose lives he touched. A Celebration of the life of Ziggy Mayotte will be held at 11:00 am, on Saturday, July 7, 2018, at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, 10901 Old Cutler Road, Coral Gables, Florida 33156 in the Garden House. Memorial donations in memory of Ziggy Mayotte can be made to Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. Please contact the Donor Services Department at 305-667-1651, x3362.
