ALFRED F. BAROODY  1922 ~ 2018
Engineer, antique collector, devoted husband and proud patriarch, Al passed away peacefully on June 25, 2018 in Richmond, VA, at age 96. Born in Danville, VA, to Lebanese immigrants Arthur and Adele, Al was a football player and pep squad member at his high school in Lake City, SC. Moving north with his family, he majored in engineering at the University of Richmond and later studied in Alabama and Georgia. He married the love of his life, Elizabeth Irwin, before shipping out to France to serve in the Army Ordnance Division in WWII.  Left to cherish his memory are their five children: Sherrell Sherron and Linda Chaffin of Richmond, Chris Baroody of Lexington, Judith Baroody of Fairfax Station and Brandon Baroody of Williamsburg (all in Virginia); six grandchildren, Stacey Marks, Christine Markowitz, Heather Hollon, Jennifer Newton, Jeff Luck and Chris Hopkins, and 15 great-grandchildren. He and Elizabeth were married for 66 years before her death in 2008. He was also predeceased by brothers Maurice and Edward, and sister Peggy. During his career as an engineer, Al worked for B&G Olson/Natkin in Richmond, Dwyer Plumbing in Alexandria and Warwick Plumbing in Newport News. The family lived in Richmond, Annandale and Springfield before moving to Williamsburg. When he retired, Al and Elizabeth moved to Providence Forge, Va., and opened an antique shop. Outside of work, Al enjoyed playing chess, collecting coins, wood working and volunteering with the Lion's Club. After Elizabeth died, he edited and published six of her books.  A private memorial service will be held in Amelia, Virginia.
