Dolores Elaine Century (nee Friedman), 89, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 12, 2018, at Journeycare Hospice in Barrington, IL, after a long battle with congestive heart failure. Dolores was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Bernard. Born in 1929 in Chicago to the late Louis and Anna Friedman, Dolores earned her B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1949, and remained a strong advocate for women and girls in science for her entire life. She moved with her family from Elgin, IL, to Cheshire, CT, in 1975 before retiring to Grayslake, IL, with Bernard in 1998. Dolores will be lovingly remembered by her children, Janet (Howard Rothstein), Kenneth (Michelle), and Karen (Aidan Dunne); stepdaughter Danielle (Tomi Panatsis); grandchildren, Noah, Megan, Ethan, Liam, and Rebecca; sister Carol "Hike" (Paul) Sanders; brother-in-law Ted; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service and celebration of Dolores' life will be held on Wednesday, June 27, 7 - 10 pm, with Kol Hadash Humanistic Congregation at the North Shore Unitarian Church, 2100 Half Day Road, Deerfield, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to Ronald McDonald House Charities or The American Association of University Women.
