Charles E. Hightower died peacefully at home, on June 13, 2018 in Houston, Tx at the age of 92.
Charles is survived by his wife Joy Hightower, sisters Judy (Sammy) Ribble of Lubbock, Tx, Sara Murff of Dallas, Tx, children; Charles Jr. of Houston, Tx; Lynann (Dick) Schneider of Lake Jackson, Tx, Wayne (Denise) of Cary, N C; Joe of New Braunfels, Tx; MaryAnne (Bill) Talab of Missouri City, Tx, Cathy of Pearland, Tx. 11 Grandchildren, and 7 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Bayner and C.W. Hightower, and his first wife Betty Hightower. Charles was born on April 7, 1926 in Miami, Fl. to Bayner and C.W. Hightower. He graduated from Texas A & M University in 1948, with a degree in Architecture. During his time at A&M he was called to duty and served in the Army Corps of Engineers in Los Alamos, N M. Charles began his career in Houston, as an apprentice architect, working on the historic Shamrock Hotel. Soon after, he started his own commercial architectural firm. Notable projects were St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, and St. Joseph Hospital. Long time clients included the Sisters of Charity and the Arch Diocese of Galveston-Houston. Throughout 70 years in practice, his many projects spanned from California to Florida. Up until December 2017, Charles was still consulting and working on projects at the age of 91. A funeral mass is scheduled for Friday, June 29, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Road,. Father Wayne Wilkerson, celebrant.
